Janet Ayers

Janet is a Natural Vocal Practitioner (2007), Lifemusician (2014) and performer. Founder of Southsea Community choir in 2007 which she still runs today, she has gone onto the use vocal work and singing in the promotion of health and well-being, developing the therapeutic role of group music making for organisations including the Alzheimer's Society, British Lung Foundation, PARCS & Portmsouth Self-Advocay. Established Portsmouth Voices in 2008 and awarded funding for The Saturday Big Sing, Sing for Health and Beating the Blues.

She also performs (vocals & violin) with a swing trio (Dave Baker Project), a five-piece progressive folk band (Polite Mechanicals) and as a duo with Mathew Parsons. Founding member of the Pompey Pluckers (2009), Portsmouth's Ukulele band.

Janet has an open and inclusive approach to facilitating singing groups, encouraging all the find their voice to make music. She believes the lifemusic method is a perfect way to engage people in music making that is both enjoyable and challenging. It's a genuinely creative and life affirming experience. To quote Christopher Small: ‘Music is not a thing but an activity, something that people do.’
